What this Stripe fee calculator covers
The default is Stripe's published US standard price for one successful domestic online card transaction. Select an international card, conversion, or manual entry when it applies. Those card surcharges add to the percentage rate; the fixed card fee stays $0.30. The tool also includes Klarna and ACH Direct Debit presets, with the ACH $5 cap.
| Charge | Published US price |
|---|---|
| Domestic online cards | 2.9% + $0.30 |
| International card | +1.5% |
| Currency conversion required | +1% |
| Manually entered card | +0.5% |
| Klarna | 5.99% + $0.30 |
| ACH Direct Debit | 0.8%, $5 cap |
| Dispute received | $15 per dispute |
The official Stripe US pricing page provides these rates. Disputes are event fees, so they are listed here but are not added to a routine transaction estimate. Your Stripe account may have custom pricing or other products enabled.
2.9% + 30¢ is the domestic card starting point
A $100 US domestic card payment costs an estimated $3.20. With an international card, the additional 1.5% makes it $4.70. If that international payment also requires currency conversion, the extra 1% brings the estimate to $5.70. Manually entered cards add another 0.5% when applicable. Turn on only the conditions that match the payment you expect. The editable fields let you model a different negotiated rate.
USD is the only currency with a verified fixed-fee preset on this US page. If you select another currency, enter the fixed fee and percentage for your account before using the result. Switching the display currency does not convert the payment or import another country's Stripe prices.
Calculate the fee, net amount, and effective rate
For a card payment, the percentage components apply to the amount the customer pays. Add the fixed fee once for the transaction, round the result to cents, and subtract it from the charged amount. Effective rate is the rounded fee divided by the charge. The fixed 30¢ matters most on low-priced products: an estimated 45¢ fee on $5 is an effective 9.00% after rounding.
For a reverse estimate, the starting formula is (target net + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − total rate). The calculator searches charges in cents to find the least amount whose estimated rounded net reaches your target. At 2.9% + $0.30, charging $103.30 gives an estimated $3.30 fee and exactly $100.00 net. Simply adding 2.9% to a $100 target would leave you short because Stripe applies its percentage to the larger amount you charge.
Refunds, disputes, and monthly costs
Stripe's standard Payments pricing has no setup or monthly fee. Its pricing page lists a $15 fee for a dispute received, separate from the card processing fee. Stripe also says the original processing fees are not returned when you refund. Most standard-pricing payment methods have no separate refund fee, although bank transfers and custom terms can differ. Keep those event costs in your margin model; this one-payment calculator estimates processing only.
Stripe or PayPal?
At their published US domestic rates, a $100 Stripe online card payment has an estimated $3.20 processing fee, while PayPal Checkout is $3.98. At $5, the estimates are $0.45 and $0.66 respectively after cent rounding. PayPal has several payment-type rates, so use the PayPal Fee Calculator to select the one that actually applies before comparing your expected payout.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How much is the Stripe fee for $1,000?
- For one successful US domestic online card charge at Stripe's standard 2.9% + $0.30 rate, the estimated fee is $29.30 and the net payout is $970.70. International cards, conversion, manual entry and other products may add costs.
- How much does Stripe charge in fees?
- Stripe's published US standard rate is 2.9% + $0.30 for a successful domestic online card transaction. It lists +1.5% for international cards, +1% when currency conversion is required and +0.5% for manually entered cards. Other payment methods and event fees have their own prices.
- How do I calculate a Stripe fee?
- Multiply the charge by the applicable percentage, add the fixed fee, and round to the currency's smallest unit. On a $100 US domestic online card charge, 2.9% of $100 plus $0.30 is $3.20, leaving $96.80. This calculator shows the resulting effective rate too.
- Are Stripe fees too high?
- Compare the effective fee for your actual payment mix, transaction size, and any add-ons. A fixed $0.30 makes a $5 domestic card payment's estimated $0.45 fee equal to 9.00% of the charged amount after rounding; on $100, the effective fee is 3.20%. Stripe also offers custom pricing to eligible businesses.
- What should I charge to receive $100 after Stripe fees?

- Stripe says the original processing, Connect and currency-conversion fees are not returned on refunds. For standard pricing, most payment methods have no separate refund-issuance fee, but bank transfers and custom pricing can differ.
- Is there a monthly fee for Stripe?
- Stripe says its standard Payments pricing has no setup or monthly fee. Optional products and event-based charges, such as disputes, may still cost extra.
